Sneakin' Sally Turns 50
Le 6 septembre 1974, seulement quelques mois après avoir quitté le groupe Vinegar Joe, Robert Palmer publie son premier album solo, Sneakin' Sally Through The Alley. Produit par Steve Smith, enregistré à New York et à la Nouvelle-Orléans avec le concours de musiciens de sessions réputés comme Cornell Dupree, Richard Tee et Bernard Purdie, mais aussi Lowell George de Little Feat, The Meters et même Steve Winwood, cet album est désormais considéré comme un classique.
On September 6, 1974, only a few months after leaving the band Vinegar Joe, Robert Palmer released his debut solo album, Sneakin' Sally Through The Alley. Produced by Steve Smith, recorded in New York and New Orleans with the help of renowned session musicians like Cornell Dupree, Richard Tee and Richard Purdie, but also Lowell George from Little Feat, The Meters and even Steve Winwood, this album is now considered a classic.
Now I've got something I want to shout about. I'm really proud of everything.
Given his stylishness, it was entirely appropriate that we gave Robert a bespoke band suited to his needs for the first album. It ended up being a dream-scenario collective.
There were huge expectations about his debut album for sure. Robert was always a cool customer and never gave it any consideration to his credit. The label adored the record and knew they’d struck gold with Robert.
