Critiques / Reviews :

  • "Robert Palmer really must have gotten off on making this album. 'Sneakin' Sally Through The Alley' reeks of good time and the result, not surprisingly, is a well put together mixture of rock, funk and blues powered by Palmer's clear, gospel tinged vocals. All manner of keyboards form the backbone of the songs and allow for side trips into musical progressions new to the ear. Good cuts include 'Get Outside' and 'Hey Julia'; all within the context of one hell of a musical goodtime. Pick up this record and join Robert Palmer in his pleasure." (Cash Box)
  • "Palmer's LP has been selling well in the import market for months now, and Island now brings this odd but interesting mix of rock jazz and other assorted rhythms to the US. Palmer is at his best when handling more conformist rock cuts, but the man is talented enough to pull off some of the controlled weirdness as well. Expect brunt of airplay to come along the FM waves. And, be assured that though Palmer is a bit strange from time to time, he is not so off the wall that he cannot become a commercial success here." (Billboard)
  • "For those who love them, 'Sneakin' Sally' is the Little Feat album of the year. Though this supreme North American band has not released since 1974, Palmer, an Englishman, has brought Lowell George's raw rock 'n' roll sensibilities rock, stock and barrel and the mid-Atlantic crossing between the two has produced an album that in its sheer unrestrained rock exuberance transcends just about anything heard this year. Featuring among others, George himself on guitars and the firmest rhythm section around, Joe Modeliste and George Porter of the Meters, 'Sally' is all hard, fluid funkiness on wich Palmer's ripe vocals and some incredibly supple melodies ride. The title cut, an old Allen Toussaint number and the first side's opener, Little Feat's 'Sailin' Shoes', are both the kind of immortal songs that can sock home once again rock's irrepressible energy and unbended sexuality. Fast headed for the top of the year's best-dressed list." (The Leader Post)
